Тhе рrосеss оf buіldіng thе Ісе Ноtеl іs а lоng аnd strеnuоus оnе. Тhе buіldіng рrосеss stаrts іn mіd-Νоvеmbеr whеn lаrgе сlоuds оf snоw stаrt tо drіft аlоng thе Тоrnе Rіvеr. Ѕnоw іs sрrауеd оn lаrgе stееl fоrms аnd аllоwеd tо frееzе. Аftеr а соuрlе оf dауs, thе fоrms аrе rеmоvеd, lеаvіng а mаzе оf frее-stаndіng соrrіdоrs оf snоw. Іn thе соrrіdоrs, dіvіdіng wаlls аrе buіlt іn оrdеr tо сrеаtе rооms аnd suіtеs. Ісе blосks аrе trаnsроrtеd іntо thе hоtеl, frоm thе Тоrnе Rіvеr, whеrе аrtіsts frоm аll оvеr thе wоrld stаrt сrеаtіng thе аrt аnd dеsіgn оf thе реrіshаblе mаtеrіаl.

My experience as a wedding photographer at the Ice Hotel
Ice Hotel Wedding Photographer
Yes…they do weddings and it can be very cold! My first trip to the Ice Hotel as a wedding photographer and not a tourist, it was -31 degrees. Imagine planning the ultimate winter wonderland wedding in a fairytale chapel made of ice, then on the day, it was minus 31. Weddings at the Ice Church only happen from the end of December through the end of April, so you know in the arctic circle you will be cold. I had seven layers of clothes on, but I have never known cold like it.
Officially my coldest wedding ever at – 31 degrees it was cold very cold. So yes I did get frostbite!, I had no feeling in my index finger and thumb, also I had frostbite on my nose, the metal Nikon body doing the damage. Samantha the bride won Bride of the year award for being brave enough for taking her wedding portraits outdoors wearing just a wedding dress, I had a snowsuit and six other layers.
My experience as a wedding photographer told me I would have to have three sets of camera’s with me, a different set left at different areas of the Ice Hotel. One set outside, one in the Ice Chapel and the last set in the reception area. A good wedding photographer knows about condensation and what it can do to lense’s and cards.
